Topping up engine oil

Removing seat (

Remove cap from oil fill loca-
tion 1 by turning counterclock-
wise.

Both too little and too
much engine oil can lead to

Always make sure that the oil
level is correct.

Add engine oil up to specified

Brake system

Operating safety

A fully functional brake system is
a basic requirement for the road
safety of your motorcycle.
Do not ride the motorcycle if you
have any doubts about the de-
pendability of the brake system.
In this case, have the brake sys-
tem checked by a specialized
workshop, preferably by an au-
thorized BMW Motorrad retailer.

Incorrect working practices
endanger the reliability of

the brakes.
Have all work on the brake sys-
tem performed by a specialized

workshop, preferably by an au-
thorized BMW Motorrad retailer.

Checking brake operation

Pull handbrake lever.
Pressure point must be clearly
perceptible.
Press footbrake lever.
Pressure point must be clearly
perceptible.

Brake pads

Checking front brake pad
thickness

Dropping below the mini-
mum pad thickness leads

to reduced braking performance
and may result in damage to the
brakes.
In order to ensure the operating
reliability of the brake system,
make sure that the brake pads
are not worn beyond their mini-
mum thickness.
